What I Learned from Reviewing AI Tools for 1 Year Blog Post

TL;DR

Woah, it's quite a wave I'm surfing here. AI has been THE topic ever since ChatGPT has launched in November 2022. No wonder so many companies are AI washing (check out the meaning in our AI dictionary) their products.
In today's tech-driven landscape, it seems like every product is jumping on the AI bandwagon. As a dedicated team of freelancers, small business owners, and aspiring entrepreneurs, we've taken it upon ourselves to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Our mission is to provide honest, unbiased feedback about which AI tools genuinely work for SMEs. Yes, we do use affiliate links, (gotta keep the lights on, right?) but our integrity is paramount. Often, the best tool we recommend isn't sponsored, as we prioritize unbiased advice over financial gain.

Let me tell you what I've learned from reviewing AI tools for a year now on my website here

1. LLMs still trump everything else Hate to break it to you, but ChatGPT and other LLMs are still the MVPs. Sure, everyone's hyped about making pictures with AI, but for most small businesses? It's a neat party trick, not a game-changer.

2. Don’t let the tech jargon scare you off
AI tools are way easier to use than you'd think. They're built for regular folks, not Silicon Valley wizards. So, keep experimenting and going forward. And if it doesn’t work, it’s not you, it’s the tool!

3. Some tools should have waited to launch
Real talk: some of these tools are half-baked. Sorry to pick on one player, but deepbrain.io is just a great example. We put it through its paces in our video generation showdown, and... yikes. It's like they rushed it out the door before it was ready for primetime. The various error messages were quite annoying, and after having to sign up before the download, the project wasn't available anymore, and we had to start all over.

4. Social media lies
Take it with a grain of salt. We just spoke about deepbrain.io? Influencers were singing its praises, but when we actually tested it, the AI sounded like it learned English yesterday. Plus a whole bunch of other issues we called out in our review.

5. The dream: Complete workflows via AI Agents
What we really need are AI agents that can take over entire workflows. I’m talking about AI, which doesn't need us to prompt every step in between but can do the assignment in one. Imagine writing your cover letter, researching the relevant contacts and sending out the whole blast personalized for you. What a time-saving!

The AI industry is booming, many new companies, AI tools and service providers, are entering the market. This is great news for SMEs, as there's huge potential for them to benefit from AI. However, diving into AI can be overwhelming for many small business owners. That's where companies like foundershare.com come in. They're offering legit and very useful assistance to business owners, onboarding them into the AI world. These companies are making it easier for entrepreneurs to understand and use AI tools, which could really help them grow and compete in today's market.

There will not be a way around AI in the future and it's clever to start working with it now. If you have more money than time, use one of the companies like foundershare to onboard you.  If you have more time than money, we will guide you through the AI landscape!

Before building this site, she spent years as a video marketer creating YouTube Ads for brands like HelloFresh and Revolut. She started aitoolssme.com because every tool was getting five stars and glowing writeups, but nobody was telling the truth about what actually works. Beyond the site, she hosts the German AI podcast KI Plausch, organizes the AI Enthusiasts Berlin meetup group, and is an active member of Women in AI. When she's not testing tools or running events, she's looking after 30 houseplants and hunting down modern art.
