Runway Review: My Experience Testing
I was really looking forward to trying Runway again. It was actually the first video generator I ever used. Back then, controlling motion was tough, but now it only gets tricky if you want to do something wild, like making a nun breakdance. This time, I ran into a different issue: Runway needs a reference image for Gen-4 Turbo or Gen-3 Turbo, or you have to pay for a plan. That’s fair, since video generation isn’t cheap. But when I tried to make videos from an image, I kept getting error messages.
On the first day, I had to give up and come back later. Even then, the errors kept popping up, but at least one video finally worked out.
New Features in Runway Review
Runway has added a creative assistant to help you write prompts, which is handy. You can also set up video workflows now, kind of like what you see in Flowith or Comfi UI. For example, if you want to copy the style from one video clip to another, you can just build a workflow for it.
What You Can Do With Runway
Here are some of the main features: text to video AI, image to video AI, image generation, the Runway creative assistant chat, workflows, expanding images, motion brush, reimagining any image, custom model training, erasing things from videos, slow motion, background remover, Gen-3 Alpha, complex scene changes, cinematic options, better quality, Act-1 for animating people, upscaling to 4K, and expanding video by about 30%.
Final Thoughts: Runway Review
Overall, Runway has some cool tools and the new features are useful, but I still think it’s a bit behind the top video generators. The creative assistant and workflows are nice additions, but the results can be hit or miss. If you want something simple and easy to use, Runway might be a good fit, but don’t expect it to blow you away just yet.
