What is XBert AI?
XBert AI is an AI receptionist built by Nextiva. If you've heard of Nextiva before, it's one of the bigger names in business phone and unified communications. XBert is their AI voice agent that sits on top of that infrastructure and handles incoming calls, chats, and SMS. The idea is that instead of missing calls when you're busy, or paying someone to answer the phone all day, XBert picks up, answers questions, books appointments, and only passes things over to you when it actually needs to. It's like a bouncer for your small business. It's trained on your own business data, so it's not just a generic bot reading from a script. It scans your website, pulls in your products, services, prices, and hours, and uses that as its knowledge base.Who is XBert AI for?
XBert AI is ideal for small businesses that run on phone calls but can't always answer them. The most obvious fit is the one-person operation. A massage therapist can't pause a session to pick up the phone. A plumber can't take a call while they're under a sink. A photographer is busy on a shoot. The business is happening, but so are the missed calls, and missed calls mean missed revenue. It's also a great fit if you spend too much time on the phone qualifying leads. If half your calls are people who aren't even your target customer, XBert AI can handle that filtering for you before you ever get involved.
And then there are businesses where a receptionist is basically part of the job description. Hotels, clinics, salons. Places where someone needs to be available to answer questions, take bookings, and direct people correctly.
My test of XBert AI (meet Chilly)
When I started my free trial, XBert AI had already done most of the heavy lifting. It scanned my website and pulled in my products, services, prices, and even my online course with the correct price. It also wrote a company description on its own. I just had to check it over (but honestly, I didn't make a change at all) and set up my handoff options.I named my agent Chilly (close enough to Lili).
My plan was to use my own website as the test case. I put Chilly live as the receptionist for AI Tools SME and called her from my phone, playing the role of a potential client. I wanted to see if she could answer specific questions about my business, walk me through the services and packages on offer, and handle a price inquiry correctly.
First, I asked what AI Tools SME actually does. Chilly nailed it. Then I asked about the different packages and services available. She listed everything correctly, including AI tool comparisons, blog content, and reviews. When I pressed further and asked about my online course, she mentioned "Generative AI for Beginners" and quoted the price correctly without hesitation.
The voice is good. I had to pay close attention to notice she wasn't a real person. She's smooth, she asks questions back if something wasn't clear, and she doesn't sound robotic. The only thing that hints at non-human is the occasional small pause, but it doesn't break the flow of the conversation.
You can set up multiple agents if you want to A/B test different voices or approaches. I'm a marketer, so I love this. You probably don't share this weird passion, but the option is there.
XBert AI can also handle SMS and live chat in real time, and you can get an email summary of every conversation your AI has had, so you stay in the loop without being in every call. This also helps adjusting or giving your agent additional information if the same misunderstandings keep happening. You could simply upload all conversations to an LLM and ask it what it would improve.
